Tucked away in Embu County and spanning 42 square kilometers a sanctuary of rare beauty, where endangered Grevy’s zebras roam and elephants traverse ancient trails and over 200 bird species paints the sky.

It far from bustling tourist circuits, Mwea invites travelers to explore wild haven brimming with life, mystery and discovery. It located about 160 km from Nairobi, Mwea National Reserve is accessed via Thika or Embu towns.

Mwea National Reserve is a haven for bird lovers, boasting over 200 bird species such as pelicans, Egyptian geese and herons. Its proximity to rivers and wetlands, provides ideal habitats for resident and migratory birds.

Hydroelectric dams and rivers

The park is bordered by Tana and Thiba Rivers and home to Kamburu and Masinga Dams, offering breathtaking views and opportunities for boat rides and fishing.

Mwea entrance fees

Resident’s fees range from Ksh 250 to 300 while nonresident visitors pay USD 20 to 25, depending on seasons while children and students enjoy discounted rates.
