5 Days Mt Kenya Climb: Sirimon In – Sirimon Out Route
Sirimon Route: Much more scenic than Naromoru and it is on the drier side of the mountain which offers some of the finest walking. Climb up through forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki. Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain.
Day 1: Old Moses Camp
Leave Nairobi to Mt Kenya National park gate, taking about 3 1/2 hrs drive. You have lunch at the gate (inside the park). Trekking begins after lunch to Old Moses, taking approximately 3 hrs, depending on your pace. Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp (3300m) 9 km trek.
Day 2: Old Moses to Shiptons Camp (16km trek)
After breakfast at 7am, hike up to Mackinders Valley through beautiful Moorland. Packed lunch along the trek. Trekking 7 hours depending on your pace. Dinner and rest at Shiptons Camp (4200m).
Day 3: Acclimatization Day
Take a 1 hr trek to Hausberg (4700m) for acclimatization, then descend for rest. Lunch, dinner, and rest at Shiptons Camp (4200m).
Day 4: Summit - Shiptons to Old Moses Camp
Early morning wakeup call at 3:30am to attempt Point Lenana (4985m) at dawn to catch the early sunrise. The trek is 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. You will descend down to Shiptons Camp for a full breakfast (approx 1 1/2 hrs), then further down to Old Moses Camp for lunch (approx 4 hrs). Dinner and rest at Old Moses Camp (3300m).
Day 5: Old Moses to Sirimon Gate
After breakfast, descend further to Sirimon Gate (approx 2 hrs). End of trek. You will be picked up at the gate and transferred back to Nairobi, where you will be dropped off at your hotel as booked by yourselves.
